FAQ's

Registration

If you would like a place for your child at my setting, please make an appointment and I'll gladly take the time to explain everything you need to know. You can make an appointment by phone or by using our contact form. I look forward to meeting you! Phone 0756 8576 422

Fees

Fees are payable weekly in advance and can be paid by cash, cheque, direct bank transfer or, by prior agreement, by childcare voucher. I am happy to accept all types of childcare voucher, but will need prior notification if these are to be used.

Payment schemes can be worked out, for example in the case of a child who attends after school and during holidays, the total cost of childcare for the year can be calculated as an average weekly cost in order that fees do not suddenly rise during the holidays. This is also useful for parents claiming the childcare element of tax credits.

Help with fees

If you work, you could get extra tax credits to help with your childcare costs. You can claim as soon as you start paying for childcare, and only for the amounts that are actually paid by you. You must use registered or approved childcare. This can include nurseries, childminders, foster carers, out of school hours clubs and nannies. You can get help with up to 70 per cent of your childcare costs - up to certain limits. If you pay childcare for: one child, the maximum childcare cost you can claim is £175 a week two or more children, the maximum cost you can claim is £300 a week You can make your claim: if you've already started to use childcare up to seven days before you start using childcare - no earlier For more information, contact the Tax Credit Helpline on 0345 300 3900

Who are OFSTED, and what does "registered childcare" mean?

Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They regulate and inspect to achieve excellence in the care of children and young people, and in education and skills for learners of all ages. Registered childminders are required to undergo professional training, including a paediatric first-aid course, prove they meet strict standards, and hold public liability insurance, a medical check and an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure – as well as receiving regular inspections. For more information on Ofsted, please visit their website.

I've never left my child before - what if they don't settle?

Most children adapt easily to change. There may be a few tears when you drop them off and leave, but from experience, within 5 minutes (usually much less), tears are forgotten and children are engrossed with what’s going on around them. I am able to implement a setting-in period if required, which will be discussed with you, and I am more than happy for parents to phone or text me during the day to see how their child is.

What happens if my child is ill?

It's unavoidable that small children catch all kinds of minor infections. For a speedy recovery and to prevent the other children from falling ill, children may be excluded from attending - please look at our Illness/Infectious Diseases Policy in the policy section to see when exclusion might occur.

What do I need to provide for my child?

If your child is wearing nappies you must supply enough nappies for them and nappy rash cream (if required). You will also need to send a spare set of clothes in case of accidents. If your child has expressed milk or baby formula this will need to be supplied. Meals and snacks are included, but if you would prefer to supply a packed lunch, this can be stored in the fridge for you.

Fussy eaters

I always try to promote healthy eating while your child is with me. However, I know each child will go through different stages and may be finicky at times and I will always try to accommodate their needs. I am happy if you would prefer to make a packed lunch or tea for your child – this will be stored in the fridge. If your child has special dietary needs or allergies, please call me and we can discuss these.
